The Sunday Morning DIE-Gest Inaugural Edition

The Sunday Morning DIE-Gest

Sunday mornings are the best. I’m usually up an hour or two before the lovely and talented Miss Clare, so I’ve got some free time to myself. There’s nothing like throwing on some old beater clothes, heading to the local Dunkins and grabbing a cup of coffee and bagel sandwich for a little bit of alone reading time. While most Sunday mornings I’ll start with a copy of the Boston Globe’s sports section, specifically for the longer notes section for baseball and football, I also like to take that time to catch up on my Google Reader. Being an internet idiot and computer dunce, I had no idea what Reader was until a short while ago. Even more so than bookmarks and RSS feeds, Reader makes putting all my favorite sites in one handy dandy spot.

This leads me to this new feature at All Things Horror. Each Sunday morning, I’m going to take a handful of horror blogs I’m reading at the moment and highlight why I love them, plus offer up a link to an article or two from my favorite posts in the past week. This is by absolutely no idea a new and novel concept. Evil On Two Legs has a list of community highlights bloggers submit each and every Friday, and Freddy in Space has a sidebar linking to different blogger articles and sites. One of the things I’ve enjoyed the most about the horror community in the short time I’ve done this site is the open nature of it. Maybe I’ve gotten lucky, but the sites I’ve read and writers I’ve emailed back and forth or commented on sites with seem a hell of a lot less like jerks than most areas online. Hopefully this will be a chance to point our readers towards some kickass horror sites that we love to read over here, especially when wearing nothing but boxer shorts and Cocoa Pebble stained tee shirts.

In my humble opinion, this is the best horror blog on the web. From the sheer joy that Johnny Bots pours into his posts I get the mental image of him waking up every day in Jack O’Lantern footsie pajamas and rushing around the house singing “The Monster Mash” while woofing down fun sized portions of Snickers for breakfast before dressing on one of those cheap Woolworth Halloween costumes form yester year with one thin elastic band holding the mask in place and a picture of whatever you were supposed to be dressed up as adorning the vinyl front. Where was I? Ah, yes. Yes, every day is Halloween in Freddy in Space world. This site has been around for a couple years and is closing in on 800 posts. New readers can spend days going through the site. Not only are their reviews of every type of horror film, FiS has sections for memorabilia folks, weekly discussions over different aspects on the horror genre and a ton more. John has an unabashed geekery when it comes to horror movies and his site is a testament to that. John’s love for horror is such that one site can’t possible contain it all, and he fronts a second site www.winfreehorrorshit.com where hi highlights different contests going on around the web where you can win-you guessed- used panties from GILFS doing netcam shows. Check out the following articles from this past week and make sure to book mark the site:

Andre Dumas has a wicked sarcastic streak in her and I like it. She’s also one of the most prolific bloggers out there, churning out quality posts like Cassius Clay busted out rhymes back in the sixties. And she’s local! Woo Boston represent (“Boston Mass is the rippenist town!”) One of the best features of her site is the “Way To Go Moments’ section where she highlights the unfortunate decision making that has doomed many a horror movie character to an eternity of doom, gloom and dismemberment. She also highlights Bravo’s list of scariest movie moments with nearly 70 posts on the 100 movies featured. I also love her user pic because it plays so well against type. Who would think that a lovely young lady enjoying a glass of white wine on a picturesque summer day could immerse herself deeply into the darkest recesses of blood splattered confines of horror that would send even the most poseurific of poseurs from the Hot Topic goth family tree running screaming from the abyss? I love the title of this blog because it combines my love for bearded tough guys and Seinfeld references. It’s also a great go to site for not just horror, but a whole mish mash of genre films. If you dig gonzo Japanese film, kung fu, exploitation movies and over the top action fests, and want them delivered with a healthy dose of humor, this is your go-to site. H, and if you dig hard core animal bestiality sites, I mean really embrace the genre, then you’re in for a special treat here. Also, one of the running features of the site is the Sunday morning column “The Horror Hangover” which spotlights a day’s worth of genre films playing on cable when you’re puking up last night’s case of Natty Ice. Matt is another Masshole, and along with Andre, the kind of person I’d like to bro down with some day over crappy slasher movies and M&M’s. Check out these recent posts:

Awesome! Thanks for the shout out and the kind words. I am honored to be mentioned with both of the other blogs as I am a big fan of The Horror Digest and Freddy in Space, so that's very cool. Plus I didn't know Andrea was from Mass! Represent!

Thanks again!
